Realistic painting, advice needed please

Mon Mar 26, 2007, 5:49 AM
New ambition.

I wanna learn how to paint realistically with acrylics. This is something ive wanted to do for a very very long time and i finally think im up to the challenge.
I dont think im off to a bad start so far, and so i hope over the next 6 months to a year, or so, my paintings reach the same standard as my charcoal drawings.

Im going to try and teach myself, as i did with the two-tone paintings and drawing by reading tutorials, and studying paintings of the same style.

If you know of any good websites or tutorials then send them my way please :D

It's all about layers...that's where you get dimension.

Dont worry about it, its a simple but important tip. I never thought about layers at all when painting Jack the 1st time around...

whilst painting Robin Hood today i kept going back over certain areas building layers of colour up. :)

just takes time to get the swing of the layering, watering down blends is your friend with acyrlics. It's time consuming, why I like oils better. hehe thats just me though :)

We are a mirror showing someone else their own selfimage perception, creating it for them.

I can't criticize what I don't understand. If you want to call this art, you've got the benefit of all my doubts. - Charles Rosin, Northern Exposure

I used to paint with oils when i was younger, killed all my brushes though lol.
I did better work with oils when i was 13 than i can do now with acrylics!
